For the Love of Sound

I love sound. It is my favorite topic in Physics. I was not into Force or Work or Electronics. But when we were talking about sound, Sine and Cosine waves suddenly became interesting.

One application of sound is Music. It has always been with me. I may not be a heavy music lover but whenever I feel stressed with school or the pressure was overwhelming, I turn to music. It never fails to relax my mind.

The music lover in the house is my father. You should see our shelves! It is full of music CD's. He bought a known brand of stereo surround to go with it. So in my childhood, I have been exposed to a good quality of sound. And old habits die hard... so up until now, I am very sensitive and particular when it comes to sound.

Speaking of sound hardware, it breaks my heart to say goodbye to my old Philips earphones. It has been with me since 2008. My mother bought it for me as one of my graduation gifts. Why did I choose it? Well, it was the best on display in the computer store. How did I know it was the best? The price tag. Hahaha~ It was at around PhP300.00 back then. But it delivered a clean, crisp, and detailed sound that I was looking for.

My old Philips earphones.
And look... it lasted for five years! (^_^) I am very impressed with the quality of Philips earphones. I can get very clumsy and my bag is out of arrangement. I just toss the said earphones in my bag, without a care for it. I use it on my laptop, cellphone, and wherever there is sound to listen to. Hehehe

My old Philips earphones in my cellphone.
It never broke until.... I sat on it. Waaaaa~ I mean, I sat on it a lot of times in the past and it still worked. Except last Monday, when I just sat on a left earpiece. Then I put it on, and it no longer worked. Noooo!

Sigh. I have a tendency to be emotionally attached to things. So even if new and better products come out, I didn't feel tempted to buy them. I was contented with the sound of my old Philips earphones.

My old Bass Vent Philips earphones
Letting go is very hard but we must do it. So I looked around and visited stores to look for new earphones. I still prefer the ear bud type. Though in-ear types are more popular, I am not really into it. I'm sorry but I love my ear drums. Hehehe~ Head phones are great too. But I wear eyeglasses and the rims hurt the back of my ears whenever it is pressed by head phones. Besides, I want something that I can easily put in my bag.

I saw a lot of very promising brands and types. Most of them were particular with bass. There was dynamic bass (at around PhP700),  super bass (at around PhP900), concert surround with noise isolation (at around PhP1,200), and a lot more! I even saw a studio type for a whopping 10 grand! I don't know if its about the brand or the prominence of bass. But one thing I realized: sound is to be taken seriously.

Since I already trust Philips, I decided to buy it. Hey, I can get loyal to a brand too. Unfortunately, I only saw one ear bud type, and oooh, I saw the same type as my old earphones too. The Bass Vent type only costs PhP249.00 now. But we need to upgrade, do we? So I bought the next level of ear bud earphones, labeled as "Extra Bass".

"Extra Bass" Philips earphones. PhP549.00

Ooh... I like the color of white and pink. The color reminds me so much of the Pink Cloud. And I put in on a road test the moment I arrived at home. Since the label was "Extra Bass", I wanted to listen to a song with a heavy emphasis on bass. The first thing that came to my mind? The album Rain Effect by Rain. The song? 30 Sexy of course!

Woah! The sound was even more crisp and I didn't even need to take the effort to listen to the bass. It was already emphasized and it even moved with my heart! I'm so happy that I got this and the sorrow of saying goodbye to my old earphones are now gone!

I love my new earphones!
Since this post is getting longer, I will write about my new earphones in a separate review. I am so excited to tell you more about it. Now I'm clubbin' till 3AM without leaving the house! Or better yet, I think I need to rewrite all the music reviews I have. Hahaha~

Sound is a wonderful part of life. Music is an amazing invention of man. And there is more to the Physics of sound. I wonder how sound engineers hear sound?
