[Review] G.I. Joe: Retaliation

The release of G.I. Joe Retaliation has been moved from time to time. At last, it was out last March 30! I heard that the first G.I. Joe was good. I haven't yet watched it so I can't compare it with this sequel. So does this movie follow the first part? Hmmm... it's more like the continuation of Cobra's evil plots. It's kind of like what you see in the animated series, this movie is a stand alone from the first G.I. Joe.

So our G.I. Joes took on an assignment from the President of America, which ended up in tragedy.  That was the start of the endless explosions in this movie! A huge number of Joes on the mission died and only three survived. Now they need help in order to get back on track and find out who was behind the plan. Of course, we all know it's Cobra.

Honestly, the plot was not focused on a specific Joe. It told of the story of the group itself. Because of that, some character developments were a bit lacking. Well, except for Storm Shadow, who got to revisit his past. Wait.. he is not even a Joe!

As for the actors, most of them were excellent. Dwayne Johnson as Roadblock did well. He is just the perfect man for the job! Adrianne Palicki as Jaye was very impressive, too. But the one that got my attention and who really left an impression on me is Ray Park. Playing as Snake Eyes, he didn't speak nor his eyes seen. But I could feel the character's emotions from his body language alone! Bravo!

The action scenes are great! The scenes were technically choreographed to match the mood. The Snake Eyes versus Storm Shadow versus a bunch of ninjas was most thrilling of them all! Feel your heart pound when you see it!

I watched this movie in 3D and the special effects were on its best. It was marketed with the 3D statement, after all. The tanks, the scenery, and the high tech stuffs were believable at first look. The sounds were okay, it just needed to match the heavy visuals more.

Overall, it was just an okay movie to watch. There were lots of explosions and high tech stuff but the movie failed to capture my emotions. It was not an engrossing film to watch. It did not even leave an impression on me afterwards.

Take my advice, watch this movie only if you are a fan of G.I. Joe, or of actors Channing Tatum, Dwayne Johnson,  or Lee Byun Hun. It's less disappointment that way.
